The Federal Government has urged the Federal High Court in Abuja to reject the no-case submission filed by the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, and order him to enter his defence in the terrorism charges brought against him.

Kanu’s lawyer had argued that the prosecution failed to prove the charges and that his client’s statements were mere boasts that did not require criminal prosecution.

However, the prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), argued that the prosecution had supplied sufficient evidence to prove the elements of the offences charged and that Kanu’s boasts and threats of violence cannot be dismissed as mere boasts.

Awomolo also faulted Kanu’s claim of being in solitary confinement for 10 years, saying that Kanu jumped bail in 2021 and has been in detention since then.

The court has adjourned till October 10, 2025, for ruling on the no-case submission.
