The International Criminal Court (ICC) has convicted two men, Patrice-Edouard Ngaissona and Alfred Yekatom, of leading Christian-dominated militias in attacks on Muslims in the Central African Republic in 2013 and 2014.
Ngaissona, a former football executive, was sentenced to 12 years in prison, while Yekatom, a militia commander nicknamed “Rambo,” received a 15-year prison sentence.
The court found them guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including murder, torture, and persecution of Muslim civilians.
The militia, known as anti-Balaka, took up arms in response to violence by mostly Muslim Seleka rebels who had seized power in the country.
