Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has approved the appointment of Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello as the new Emir and Sarkin Katsina of Gusau, following the death of his father, His Royal Highness Ibrahim Bello, who passed away on July 25, 2025, after a distinguished 10-year reign.

The Secretary announced the State Government (SSG), Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, who noted that the appointment followed the traditional recommendations of the Gusau Emirate kingmakers, in line with customary practices and relevant legal provisions.

Alhaji Abdulkadir, the eldest son of the late Emir, ascends the throne as the 16th Sarkin Katsina Gusau. Before his elevation, he held the respected traditional title of Bunun Gusau.

In a congratulatory message, Governor Lawal praised the new Emir. He urged him to sustain the legacy of integrity, service, and unity laid down by his forebears, particularly as a direct descendant of Malam Sambo Dan Ashafa, a revered historical figure in the region.

“I encourage the new Emir to be a symbol of peace, unity, and development, and to promote harmonious coexistence among all communities within the Gusau Emirate and beyond,” the governor said.
The appointment marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of the Gusau Emirate, with hopes high for continuity, tradition, and progress under the new monarch.
