Former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to provide effective leadership and address Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

In a letter shared on his X handle, Melaye expressed his disappointment with the party’s diminishing capacity, stating that it has lost its potency and ability to deliver Nigerians from the country’s deep-seated problems.

“This decision has become imperative due to the lack of potency and capacity by the party to deliver the Nigerian people from the prevailing political cankerworms that have eaten deeply into the fabric of our dear nation,” he wrote.

Melaye’s resignation marks another significant exit from the opposition party, following in the footsteps of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who also resigned recently due to irreconcilable differences.

Both Atiku and Melaye have since joined a coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside other notable figures such as Nasir El-Rufai, David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola, positioning themselves as a viable alternative for Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections.
