The Port Harcourt-based side was initially rumored to be considering boycotting the Sunday game due to unpaid wages by the Club. The win sees them placed on the same points with Tunisian Club, Club Africain who sits in second place with four goals difference. Rivers United had a sloppy start in the game as the hosts took the lead in the 37th minute from the penalty spot converted by Cabibi. The former NPFL Champions scored an equalizer through Ekerette Udom’s 44th-minute header before Alex Oyowah scored from the penalty spot to give Rivers United the lead going to Half Time.

Three minutes into the second half, Ghana Midfielder, Farouk Mohammed scored a third goal with Sadiq Abubakar providing the second assist for the day. The hosts responded with an equalizer in the 68th minute as Rivers United held on to the lead till the 90th minute.

Rivers United will play the last group game versus Group leaders, Dreams Fc of Ghana on Sunday March 3rd 2024 at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Nigeria.
