The Muslim Community of Lagos State (MCLS) has urged Muslims across Lagos and Nigeria to see the commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) birth, Mawlid Nabiyy, as a call to action rather than just a public holiday.

In a message signed by its President, Alhaji Hon. Muhammad Bello Oyinlomo Danmole, and Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Jubril Folami, the group congratulated Muslims on the occasion but stressed that the true essence of Mawlid lies in embodying the Prophet’s values.

The MCLS emphasized that Muslims must emulate the Prophet by upholding truth, kindness, justice, and humility in their daily lives.

It further called for peaceful coexistence with people of all faiths and backgrounds, while working to ensure Lagos remains a safe and united home for everyone.

Quoting the Qur’an, the statement reminded believers of Allah’s words: “Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever hopes in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often” (Qur’an 33:21).

It also cited the Prophet’s saying: “The best among you are those who have the best manners and character” (Sahih al-Bukhari).

The group urged Muslims to let the Prophet’s teachings reflect in their conduct so that society as a whole can benefit from the mercy he brought to mankind.
