Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, is poised to return to the National Assembly later this month after completing her six-month suspension.
Her lawyer, Victor Giwa, confirmed that Akpoti-Uduaghan has made plans to resume plenary when the Senate reconvenes on September 23.
Currently on vacation in London, the senator is expected to face no obstacles upon her return, with the Senate leadership reportedly ready to welcome her back.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended on March 6 following allegations of insubordination, which she linked to her petition accusing Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment. Despite a court judgment favoring her recall, the Senate insisted she would remain suspended until the six-month penalty elapsed.
Her attempt to return to the National Assembly in July was met with resistance from security operatives.
However, with the suspension’s expiration, Giwa expressed confidence that pending legal disputes won’t impede her return, stating, “Everything will be resolved. Even the court cases will become like an academic exercise”.
