Tunisian authorities have denied claims that a Gaza-bound vessel carrying aid and pro-Palestinian activists, including Greta Thunberg, was attacked by a drone.

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) reported that their “Family Boat” was struck by a suspected drone while anchored outside Sidi Bou Said port, causing a fire that damaged the main deck.

However, Tunisia’s National Guard spokesman stated that “no drone” was detected, and an investigation is ongoing, with preliminary findings suggesting the fire originated inside the vessel.

The GSF, which aims to break Israel’s siege on Gaza, has faced several setbacks, including previous attempts to sail aid to Gaza being intercepted by Israeli forces. The flotilla’s organisers have accused Israel of attempting to intimidate and derail their mission.

Francesca Albanese, UN Human Rights Council special rapporteur, warned that if the attack is verified, it would be an “assault and aggression against Tunisia and Tunisian sovereignty”.

The incident has sparked controversy, with the GSF releasing videos on social media showing the moment of the alleged attack.

Despite Tunisia’s denial, the GSF insists that the incident was a drone attack and vows to continue its mission to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza.
