The suspension follows a directive from the governor requesting the commissioner to provide a detailed explanation for his actions.

According to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Yahayya Sarki, the suspension will remain in effect until further notice.

The decision is believed to be connected to recent criticism of the state of the health sector by social media influencers, particularly after a viral video exposed the deplorable conditions at Kangiwa General Hospital, showing patients lying on bare metal beds without mattresses.

Journalist Hassan Mai-Waya Kangiwa, who released the video, was arrested but later released amid public outcry and media backlash, with reports indicating he received ₦200,000 compensation for unlawful detention.

Governor Idris reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to accountability, discipline, and effective service delivery, emphasizing that public office holders must earn and maintain public trust.

The suspension is part of a series of disciplinary measures under the Idris administration, which has repeatedly stressed accountability and dedication to duty as guiding principles in public service.
