Super Eagles of Nigeria Goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali receives a warm welcome from Chippa United fans as he returns to Club Football.

Nwabali plays for South African Club, Chippa United returned to the Club on Tuesday and was received by hundreds of supporters at the Airport. Nwabali who was previously a relatively unknown figure to football fans at home and abroad came into the limelight overnight following his superb performance for the Super Eagles of Nigeria during the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.

The 27-year-old was in goal for the Super Eagles in the Semi-final match against South Africa as he saved two penalties, denying the Bafana Bafana a chance in the final. He was also the second-best goalkeeper with four clean sheets at the Nations Cup behind South Africa goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams. There were concerns among Nigerian fans about the possibility of Nwabali facing a hostile reception in South Africa, the opposite occurred when he arrived at the Airport where passionate supporters eagerly approached him for photos, especially those rooting for Chippa United, his club.

Following his impressive performances at the 2023 Nations Cup, Nwabali’s name has been linked with several clubs in Europe with numerous top South African clubs keen on acquiring him from Chippa United.
