The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that the country has no active case of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), dispelling fears sparked by reports of suspected infections.
NCDC Director-General, Dr. Jide Idris, said on Friday that the two individuals recently flagged as suspected cases have tested negative for the virus. He urged Nigerians to remain calm and to rely only on verified updates from health authorities rather than circulating unverified claims.
Health officials at the Abuja facility where one of the cases had been isolated said the response was swift and coordinated. The NCDC added that surveillance measures have been intensified at border points and other key entry routes to ensure early detection and containment should an outbreak occur.
Dr. Idris also highlighted common symptoms of Ebola and issued a public advisory reminding healthcare workers and the public to strictly observe infection prevention protocols. He stressed that early reporting and adherence to safety measures remain critical in minimizing risks of exposure.
