The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that its staff will visit Nairobi from September 25 to October 9 to initiate discussions with Kenyan authorities on a possible IMF-backed program.
According to Haimanot Teferra, the IMF’s mission chief for Kenya, the talks are in response to the Kenyan authorities’ request for a potential Fund-supported program.
This development comes after a previous IMF staff visit to Kenya in March, where the IMF received a formal request for a new program from the Kenyan authorities.
The IMF team will engage with Kenyan officials to discuss recent developments and the macroeconomic outlook.
The Fund remains committed to supporting Kenya in maintaining macroeconomic stability, safeguarding debt sustainability, strengthening governance, and promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.
The talks aim to explore ways to address emerging challenges and support Kenya’s economic development.
