Retired Deputy Inspector General of Police Parry Osayande has passed away at the age of 88, just hours before his 89th birthday.

Born on September 29, 1936, Osayande had a distinguished career in the Nigeria Police Force, serving as Commissioner of Police in Benue and Cross River states before rising to become Deputy Inspector General.

He later chaired the Police Service Commission, playing a vital role in police reforms and disciplinary matters.

Osayande’s demise was confirmed by the President of the Immaculate Conception College Old Boys’ Association Worldwide, Ighodalo Edetanlen, who described him as an exemplary old boy.

Edetanlen urged members of the association and the public to remember Osayande’s family in their prayers during this difficult period. “While we mourn, let us also uphold the family he left behind in prayers in this moment of grief,” he said.

The Police Service Commission also mourned Osayande’s death, describing him as fearless and focused. The commission’s chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu, said Osayande’s passing was a great loss to the commission.

Osayande’s tenure as PSC chairman marked rapid growth of the commission, including the presidential approval for a corporate headquarters in Abuja.

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo described Osayande as a courageous and disciplined police officer who dedicated his life to serving his community and nation. “The late DIG Osayande is an exemplary icon of professionalism and a patriot whose entire life was dedicated to the service of his community and the nation,” Okpebholo said.
