Kenyan police have announced a 1 million shilling ($7,700) reward for information leading to the arrest of Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a suspected serial killer who escaped from custody over a year ago.
Khalusha is believed to be responsible for the murders of more than 40 women, whose mutilated bodies were discovered in a disused quarry in Nairobi.
He escaped from police custody in August 2024, along with 12 others, after cutting through a wire mesh roof and scaling a perimeter wall.
The police’s failure to recapture him has sparked outrage, with many questioning how he managed to escape from a maximum-security police station near the US embassy and UN offices in Nairobi.
Activist Khalid Hussein criticized the police, saying they were “not serious” about solving the murders and that the reward announcement was likely a response to public pressure.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has urged anyone with credible information to come forward and assist in Khalusha’s re-arrest.
