A 55-year-old Douglas DC-8 freighter skidded off the runway while landing at N’Djili International Airport in Kinshasa on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
The aircraft, registration 9S-AJO, is operated by Trans Air Cargo Service (TACS). According to aviation tracker FL360aero, the DC-8-70/73 overran or veered off the paved surface during landing before coming to a stop beyond the runway.
It is unclear what caused the incident. Authorities have not yet released details on damage to the aircraft or whether there were any injuries. An investigation is expected to determine what led to the runway excursion.
The plane is one of the few DC-8s still flying in commercial cargo service worldwide. TACS has operated 9S-AJO for several years.
N’Djili Airport serves as the main international gateway to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
