Moroccan midfielder Adel Taarabt has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37.
Taarabt, who was born in 1989 made the announcement on his official Instagram account, bringing an end to a career that saw him represent several clubs across Europe and the Middle East.
The former AC Milan and Genoa midfielder made his name particularly during spells with Queens Park Rangers and Benfica, where he became known for his technical ability and creativity.
In his retirement message, Taarabt said the decision marked the end of an important chapter in his life, adding that football had given him wonderful memories and allowed him to meet incredible people.
He thanked the clubs he represented, as well as his former managers, teammates, staff and supporters, mentioning his journey from Lens to his final club, Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
Taarabt also reflected on his international career with Morocco, saying representing the Atlas Lions would always hold a special place in his heart.
The midfielder made 30 appearances for Morocco and scored four goals during his international career.
Taarabt began his professional journey with Lens before going on to play for Tottenham Hotspur, QPR, AC Milan, Fulham, Benfica, Genoa and several other clubs before ending his career in the UAE.
