The Nigerian Senate has formally sworn in two newly elected senators, Joseph Ikpea and Emmanuel Nwachukwu, representing Edo Central and Anambra South senatorial districts, respectively.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio presided over the ceremony, which was attended by prominent figures including former Delta State Governor James Ibori and former Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu.
The swearing-in follows recent by-elections held to fill vacant seats left by Monday Okpebholo, now Governor of Edo State, and the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away in July 2024.
Akpabio urged the new lawmakers to diligently study and abide by the Senate’s standing rules, emphasizing their role as senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
With their addition, the Senate now has its full complement of 109 members.
