The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) management has expressed deep concern over disturbing scenes from Sunday’s Matchday 8 fixture between Kano Pillars and Shooting Stars, where fans invaded the pitch moments after the final whistle.

In a statement signed by the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, the NPFL said it had monitored the viral video clips circulating online and was awaiting official match reports and full video evidence from the Match Commissioner and Referees before taking further action.

“We condemn in the strongest terms any act of violence, intimidation, or misconduct directed at players, match officials, or fans,” Owumi stated.
He assured that the incident was being treated with utmost seriousness, stressing that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken once the reports are reviewed.

Owumi also confirmed that the NPFL had been in contact with the Match Commissioner, Referees, and Shooting Stars officials, adding that their safety had been secured.
“We reaffirm our commitment to maintaining discipline, safety, and professionalism at all league venues across the country,” the statement concluded.
