The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has named former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), among the witnesses he plans to call in his defence before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
In a fresh motion personally signed and filed on October 21, 2025, before Justice James Omotosho, Kanu expressed his readiness to open his defence in the terrorism case filed against him by the Federal Government.
According to the motion, Kanu intends to call 23 witnesses divided into two categories — ordinary but material witnesses and vital and compellable witnesses — as part of efforts to prove his case.
The IPOB leader also prayed the court to grant him a 90-day timeframe to conclude his defence, citing the number of witnesses he plans to call.
Kanu’s trial, which has drawn both local and international attention, follows charges bordering on terrorism, incitement, and membership of an unlawful organization filed against him by the Federal Government.
