The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that 35 people lost their lives in a tanker explosion that occurred along the Bida–Lapai road, after Badegi, on Tuesday, October 21, 2025.

According to the FRSC, the victims died while attempting to scoop fuel from a petrol-laden tanker that had crashed and overturned.

The incident also left 46 others injured with varying degrees of burns.

A rescue team from the FRSC, deployed to the scene, reported that the accident happened when the tanker, loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), lost control due to the bad condition of the road and subsequently overturned.

FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, described the tragedy as a needless national disaster, attributing it to “ignorance, greed, and disregard for safety warnings.”

He urged Nigerians to learn from such incidents and to avoid risky behaviour around crash sites involving fuel tankers.
