Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has been affirmed as the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the June 20, 2026, election.

The affirmation came after a special nomination congress held in Ado Ekiti, where Oyebanji was unanimously endorsed by 885 delegates from 177 wards across the state.

The congress was supervised by a committee chaired by Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.

Oyebanji’s emergence as the consensus candidate followed the voluntary withdrawal of Mrs. Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo, who stepped down to support Oyebanji’s re-election bid. Omolayo cited Oyebanji’s sterling performance and commitment to Ekiti’s progress as reasons for her withdrawal.

In his acceptance speech, Oyebanji thanked President Bola Tinubu for his support and promised to continue working for the development of Ekiti State.

He also urged his supporters to shun politics of bitterness and work together for the progress of the state.

The APC’s decision to adopt Oyebanji as its consensus candidate comes after another aspirant, Kayode Ojo, was disqualified by the party’s screening committee for failing to meet the party’s requirements.

With Oyebanji’s affirmation, the stage is set for the June 2026 governorship election, where he will represent the APC.
