Previously ranked 30th, Nigeria’s drop follows their performance in two post-African Cup of Nations matches, where they finished as runners-up after a 2-1 loss to Ivory Coast. In recent World Cup Qualifiers, the Super Eagles played a 1-1 draw against South Africa in Uyo and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic in Ivory Coast. which might cast doubt on Nigeria’s prospects for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

In Africa, Morocco leads the continent in 12th place globally, followed by Senegal at 18th. Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire are ranked 36th and 37th respectively, just ahead of Nigeria. Tunisia and Algeria are ranked 41st and 44th respectively, while Cameroon and Mali are both ranked 50th.

As global teams prepare for upcoming competitions, these rankings underscore the dynamic nature of international football and the ongoing competition for supremacy. The next FIFA rankings will be released on July 18, shortly after the conclusion of UEFA EURO 2024 in Germany.
