Serbian champions Red Star Belgrade have announced the mutual termination of their contract with Nigerian forward Peter Olayinka.

The 29-year-old attacker joined the club in 2023 from Czech giants Slavia Prague and scored 14 goals in 46 league appearances during his time in Belgrade.

In a statement released on Thursday via the club’s official website, Red Star confirmed the development, stating: “Red Star Football Club informs the public that it has mutually terminated cooperation with Peter Olayinka with mutual understanding and appreciation.”

The club added that Olayinka had requested to explore new career opportunities, while expressing gratitude for his professionalism and contributions.

“Crvena zvezda thanks Olayinka for everything he has done in the red and white jersey and wishes him success, health, and happiness in the future,” the statement concluded.

Sources revealed that the decision was initiated by the player, who is reportedly close to finalising a move elsewhere. Olayinka endured a challenging spell last season after suffering an Achilles tendon injury during Red Star’s UEFA Champions League clash with AS Monaco in October 2024. He underwent surgery the following month and returned to training in February.

This season, the Nigerian forward has featured twice for the club, both appearances coming in the Europa League.

Before moving to Serbia, Olayinka enjoyed a prolific five-year stint at Slavia Prague, where he made 182 appearances, scored 50 goals, provided 26 assists, and won seven trophies, including multiple Czech league titles.
