Dutch giants Ajax have completed the signing of Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare from English Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers on a season-long loan deal, with an option to make the transfer permanent.
Ajax confirmed the move on Wednesday, announcing that the 25-year-old Nigerian forward will remain at the club until the summer of 2027 under the terms of the agreement.
Arokodare joins the Amsterdam-based club after spending one season with Wolves, where he made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing two assists.
Before moving to England, the striker enjoyed a productive spell with Belgian club Genk, scoring 41 goals and registering eight assists in 113 appearances.
Ajax technical director Jordi Cruijff welcomed the Nigerian’s arrival, describing him as a striker with a different profile who can add a new dimension to the club’s attack.
“With Tolu, we are bringing in a striker with a profile that we did not previously have in the squad. He is a physically strong player who has already proven himself to be a goalscorer. We are confident that he will make an important contribution to the team next season,” Cruijff said.
Arokodare described his move to Ajax as a dream come true, revealing that he has admired the club since childhood.
“It’s amazing. It’s a nice feeling. Since I was a kid I’ve known about them and I never imagined myself playing for them,” he said.
The Super Eagles forward also highlighted his desire to combine with teammates and contribute with goals.
“I like to play and combine with my teammates. I like to help the team in whatever way I can. I’m a striker who just wants to play and who just wants to score,” Arokodare added.
Looking ahead to the new season, the Nigerian acknowledged Ajax’s ambitions and expressed his determination to help the club compete for major honours and secure European football.
He said he was aware of the club’s desire to challenge for the league title and return to the UEFA Champions League, adding that he was eager to play his part in achieving those objectives.
