Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been transferred to a correctional facility in Sokoto, Nigeria, following his life sentence for terrorism charges.

Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, announced the move on social media, expressing concern that the distance would hinder Kanu’s access to his family, lawyers, and loved ones.

Kanu was convicted of terrorism charges by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday.

The IPOB leader had been held in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since his re-arrest in June 2021.

Kanu’s legal team has vowed to appeal the conviction, arguing that the judgment was unjust.
