Dahiru Usman Bauchi, a renowned Islamic scholar and leader of the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order in Nigeria, has passed away at the age of 98.
He died on Thursday at a private hospital in Bauchi after a brief illness.
Bauchi was a prominent figure in Nigerian Islam, having spent over seven decades teaching Qur’anic exegesis and leading millions of followers across West Africa.
Born around 1927 in Gombe, Bauchi was widely recognised as the Khalifah of the Tijjaniyyah Ibrahimiyyah in Nigeria and served as deputy chairman of the Fatwa committee of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA).
He leaves behind dozens of children, students, and followers.
Funeral prayers have been scheduled, with details to be announced soon.
Bauchi’s death has been met with condolences from various quarters, acknowledging his contributions to Islamic scholarship and his leadership in the Tijjaniyyah Sufi order.
