At least 19 people died when a boat capsized on Lake Mai-Ndombe in the Democratic Republic of Congo due to heavy winds, according to the provincial governor.
The boat, carrying over 200 passengers, had left the village of Kiri for Kinshasa when it capsized on Thursday night.
Rescue efforts have recovered 19 bodies, with 82 survivors, and the search for missing passengers continues.
The incident highlights the frequent accidents on Congo’s rivers, often caused by outdated vessels and overcrowding.
