The House of Representatives has summoned Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Olayemi Cardoso to appear before its Public Accounts Committee to explain the alleged non-remittance of over N5 trillion operating surplus and N11 trillion revenue into government coffers.

The move follows a motion moved by Committee Chairman Bamidele Salam, citing alleged financial liabilities involving charges collected through the Remita Revenue Collection System between 2015 and 2016.

The House had previously received the Auditor-General’s 2022 report, highlighting infractions by the CBN and other government agencies.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) had also demanded Cardoso’s accountability for allegedly missing or diverted N3 trillion public funds.

Cardoso has been given a deadline to appear before the committee, with threats of arrest if he fails to comply.
