Armed bandits have killed Hon. Mu’azu Zannan Gwashi, a prominent political leader, after collecting N15 million ransom, five months after his abduction in Zamfara State’s Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
Gwashi was kidnapped on July 22, 2025, along with two others, when bandits attacked the vehicle of PDP Chairman Hon. Muhammad Sala Wuta, injuring him.
The kidnappers initially demanded N30 million, later reducing it to N15 million. However, after receiving the payment, they refused to release Gwashi, insisting on the remaining N15 million.
Gwashi’s community confirmed his death in captivity, sparking widespread grief and outrage.
This incident highlights the escalating insecurity in Zamfara State, with frequent kidnappings and attacks on citizens and public officials. Despite government efforts to counter banditry, attacks continue, leaving communities vulnerable and fearful.
