The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the Nigeria Police Force’s plan to resume enforcement of the suspended tinted glass permit policy from January 2, 2026, citing it as a disregard for the rule of law.

The police had announced the resumption, citing a surge in vehicle-related crimes.

However, the NBA argues that the policy is unconstitutional, illegal, and extortionate, and has already instituted a suit at the Federal High Court, Abuja, challenging its legality.

The NBA accuses the police of executive recklessness and contempt for the court’s authority, pointing out that the court had relied on the police’s undertaking to suspend enforcement.

The association has called on the Inspector General of Police to withdraw the statement announcing the resumption and to halt enforcement pending the court’s decision.

The NBA has also directed its branches and Human Rights Committee to provide legal assistance to any Nigerian affected by the enforcement and warned that it will initiate committal proceedings against the Inspector General of Police and the Force Public Relations Officer for contempt if the directive is ignored.
