Senator Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna South Senatorial District, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Katung cited the prolonged leadership crisis in the PDP as the reason for his defection, stating that the platform could no longer guarantee his political destiny.
In his defection letter, read at plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Katung said he decided to join the APC after wide consultations with his constituents, believing it is the best platform to continue serving his people.
He described the PDP as “fractured” and unable to meet the aspirations of voters in his constituency.
The defection brings the APC’s total number of senators to 74, while the PDP now has 27 senators. Katung’s move is seen as a strategic alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he believes will bring development and progress to his constituency.
