The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is calling for the immediate suspension of the new Tax Reform Acts, citing “grave concerns” over the integrity of the legislative process after allegations surfaced that the official gazetted versions of the laws differ from what the National Assembly actually passed.

The controversy began when a lawmaker, Abdussamad Dasuki, raised an alarm about discrepancies, prompting the NBA to demand a full and transparent investigation.

NBA President Afam Osigwe warned that the legal uncertainty unsettles the business environment and erodes investor confidence, and that all implementation should halt until the issues are resolved.

While opposition figures have also called for the laws’ suspension, the Presidency has dismissed the claims as “opposition noise,” insisting the reforms will proceed as scheduled in January 2026.

The House of Representatives has since formed a committee to investigate the allegations.
