Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), continuing a major political realignment in the state.
During Tuesday’s plenary, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read the defection letters from lawmakers Dumnamene Dekor, Solomon Bob, Hart Cyril, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi, and Felix Nweke.
The representatives cited the unresolved leadership crisis and deep divisions within the PDP as the primary reason for their departure, stating the APC under President Bola Tinubu provides a better platform for them to serve their constituents.
This move follows the recent defections of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and 15 members of the state’s House of Assembly to the APC, as well as several other federal lawmakers from the state in recent weeks.
With these latest defections, the PDP’s representation in the Rivers caucus of the House has been significantly reduced to just a few members.
