Christopher Imumolen has switched camps in Osun politics days to the governorship election.

The 2023 Accord presidential candidate announced on Thursday at the APC’s grand finale rally in Osogbo that he and his working committee are withdrawing support for Governor Ademola Adeleke. Imumolen, who describes himself as the national chairman of a faction of Accord, told the crowd to vote for the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly called AMBO, when polls open on Saturday.

“We have stepped down our support for Ademola Adeleke, and today we declare our support for AMBO,” Imumolen said. “Come Saturday, all Accord members in Osun state should go to the polling units and vote for AMBO.”

The move puts him at odds with the INEC-recognized leadership of Accord. That faction, led by Maxwell Mgbudem, has already endorsed Adeleke’s re-election bid.

It is Imumolen’s second major political shift in a week. Last week he pulled out of the 2027 presidential race and declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. He said he was prioritizing unity, stability and continuity over personal ambition, and cited Tinubu’s leadership and reform agenda as the reason.

With the Osun governorship vote scheduled for Saturday, the defection adds another twist to the contest between the incumbent and the APC.
