The Super Eagles of Nigeria kicked off their campaign for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday night at the Fez Stadium in Morocco.

Nigeria took the lead in the 36th minute when defender Semi Ajayi rose highest to score, giving the three-time African champions a deserved advantage heading into the halftime break.

Tanzania responded strongly after the restart and drew level just five minutes into the second half, with Charles Mombwa finding the net to restore parity and briefly threaten an upset.
However, the Super Eagles regained control in the 52nd minute as Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman produced a fine finish to put Nigeria back in front. The goal proved decisive as Nigeria held on to secure all three points.

The win gives the Super Eagles a positive start in their pursuit of continental glory and boosts confidence ahead of their remaining group matches.
