The Kano State House of Assembly was plunged into mourning on Wednesday following the sudden and tragic deaths of two of its serving members, who passed away within just an hour of each other.
The deceased lawmakers are Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo, who represented the Ungogo Constituency, and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented the Kano Municipal Constituency. Hon. Ungogo, who also served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, reportedly fell ill shortly after arriving at the Assembly complex for committee meetings earlier in the day.
He was rushed to a hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead.
News of his passing sent shockwaves through the state, and the tragedy was compounded when, barely an hour later, the death of Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji was also confirmed.
Officials from the Kano State Government, including the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the deaths on social media, expressing the government’s grief.
The near-simultaneous passing of the two lawmakers has left colleagues, government officials, and residents in a state of shock, with tributes pouring in for the two men, who were described as dedicated public servants. While funeral arrangements for Hon. Ungogo were reportedly set for Wednesday evening in accordance with Islamic rites, the specific circumstances surrounding both deaths remained unclear at the time of reporting.
