Veteran Nigerian journalist Dotun Oladipo has died at 56.
Oladipo, founder and managing editor of Eagle Online, reportedly collapsed in his office on Tuesday, August 25. He drove himself to hospital but died hours later in Lagos.
His death was confirmed late Tuesday by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, where he served as a former president. GOCOP President Danlami Nmodu announced it on the guild’s WhatsApp platform.
“It has just been confirmed that Emeritus President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, died today,” Nmodu wrote. “May his soul rest in peace. Amen.”
On Wednesday morning, Nkanu Egbe, general secretary of the Innovative Media Partners Cooperative Multipurpose Society, IMPCMS, also confirmed the passing. Oladipo was the founding president of the cooperative.
“It is with profound sorrow that I announce the sudden death of our President, Mr Dotun Oladipo, who passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Lagos, at the age of 56,” Egbe said in a statement.
“Mr Oladipo led our cooperative with dedication, alongside a distinguished journalism career spanning nearly three decades. His passing is a devastating loss not only to IMPCMS but to Nigerian journalism as a whole.”
The Executive Committee said it will announce funeral arrangements, condolence visits, and interim leadership in due course, and urged members to keep Oladipo’s family in their prayers.
Oladipo was also CEO of Premium Eagle Media Limited. Before starting Eagle Online, he worked as politics editor at PUNCH Newspapers and also had stints at Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass, and The Sun.
