A section of a private rice mill in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital, has collapsed, killing one worker while five others were trapped beneath the metal debris of the facility.
As of the time the Kebbi State Deputy Governor visited the scene, rescue operations were still ongoing to save the trapped victims.
The Kebbi State Government expressed deep sympathy to the management and staff of NIA-AGRI following the partial collapse of the rice mill. Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, led a high-powered delegation on an on-the-spot assessment visit to the facility on Tuesday evening.

Tafida said the visit was to assess the extent of the damage and oversee the emergency response efforts.
During the visit, the project engineer informed the delegation that the incident had claimed one life, while five other workers remained trapped under the rubble at the time, with intensive rescue operations underway.
A joint team comprising the State Fire Service and government emergency response workers has been deployed to the site and is working round the clock to locate and rescue the trapped workers.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be determined. The Deputy Governor said a full investigation would be conducted after the completion of rescue operations.
The Kebbi State Government assured that it would continue to provide support for the rescue efforts until all affected persons are accounted for.
