A Federal High Court in Abuja is set to hear the bail application for former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, his son Abdulaziz, and his wife, Bashir Asabe, who are currently being held at Kuje Correctional Centre.
The trio is facing a 16-count charge from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for allegedly laundering approximately ₦8.7 billion.
The charges claim Malami used his position to acquire numerous high-value assets, including hotels and luxury properties in cities like Abuja, Kano, and Kebbi, with the EFCC tracing assets worth over N200 billion to him and his associates.
After pleading not guilty to all charges on December 29, 2025, Justice Emeka Nwite denied an oral request for bail and ordered their remand until today’s hearing on their formal written application.
