Kayode Adeniyi, the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the fatal crash that injured former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua and killed two of his associates, has been arraigned in court.
Adeniyi, 47, was charged with manslaughter and reckless driving at the Sagamu Magistrate Court today, with the case being adjourned to January 20, 2026, for further proceedings.
The tragic accident occurred on Monday, December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the SUV, allegedly traveling at excessive speed, suffered a tire blowout during an overtaking maneuver and crashed into an illegally parked truck.
Adeniyi, a long-standing member of Joshua’s Nigerian logistics team, was discharged from the hospital on New Year’s Eve and subsequently taken into custody.
The crash resulted in the deaths of two of Joshua’s close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif Ayodele. Both Joshua and his driver survived the incident, with the boxer sustaining what has been reported as a leg fracture and being released from the hospital on December 31.
Authorities from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have attributed the crash to overspeeding and a wrongful overtake, while the driver of the stationary truck reportedly fled the scene and has been declared wanted.
