The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has officially affirmed Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the leader of the party in Rivers State, citing the APC constitution which recognizes sitting governors as state party leaders.

Speaking on Channels Television, Yilwatda clarified that this is the standard practice in all APC-controlled states, although he urged Governor Fubara to ensure he includes and coordinates with all party stakeholders.

This declaration effectively settles the leadership question that has fueled political tension between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Yilwatda downplayed Wike’s role by stating that since Wike is not an APC member, party discussions in the state will be held with Governor Fubara.

On the topic of a second term, the chairman confirmed that the party would support Fubara if he emerges as the candidate through the regular primary process, the same as any other aspirant.
