The impeachment effort against Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, has suffered a fresh blow following the withdrawal of support by two additional members of the State House of Assembly, deepening calls for dialogue to resolve the state’s political crisis.

Barile Nwakoh, who represents Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio Akpor Constituency II, announced their decision barely 48 hours after two other lawmakers distanced themselves from the impeachment process.

Both lawmakers urged a peaceful resolution of the crisis, stressing the need to prioritise stability and governance in the state.

While acknowledging that concerns had been raised over alleged constitutional breaches by the governor and his deputy, the legislators said their change of position was influenced by interventions from respected leaders and stakeholders who appealed for restraint in the broader interest of peace. They noted that continued confrontation could further inflame tensions and undermine effective governance in Rivers State.

With the latest withdrawals, four out of the 26 lawmakers who initially endorsed the notice of alleged gross misconduct have now pulled back, signalling a growing shift within the Assembly toward dialogue rather than impeachment. The development reflects increasing unease over the political standoff and mounting pressure on the House to find alternative ways to resolve the impasse
