The Federal Government has withdrawn criminal defamation charges against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, bringing an end to a high-profile legal battle.
The Abuja High Court struck out the charges on Thursday, following a Notice of Discontinuance filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation on December 12, 2025.
The case stemmed from comments allegedly made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a televised interview, sparking debate on freedom of expression and political accountability.
Justice C. N. Oji noted the need for restraint in prosecutorial powers, hoping the decision would promote respect for the rule of law.
