Niger’s military ruler, Abdourahamane Tiani, has accused the presidents of France, Benin, and Ivory Coast of sponsoring a terrorist attack on Niamey international airport.
The attack, which occurred shortly before midnight, resulted in gunfire and loud explosions, damaging two aircraft and injuring four soldiers.
Tiani made the accusation without providing evidence, stating, “We have heard them bark, they should be ready to hear us roar,” signaling a worsening relationship between Niger and its western partners.
The offices of the presidents of France, Benin, and Ivory Coast could not be reached for comment.
The attack is believed to be linked to jihadist groups, and Niger’s military has reinforced security around the airport.
Russian troops stationed at the base were thanked by Tiani for defending their sector.
