Former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami has filed an application challenging the interim forfeiture of 57 properties seized by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), valued at N213.2 billion.

The EFCC had obtained the order, claiming the properties were proceeds of unlawful activities.

Malami argues the EFCC obtained the order through suppression of material facts and misrepresentation, and is seeking to have the order set aside.

He claims the properties were acquired legitimately, citing his asset declaration forms submitted to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) in 2019 and 2023.

Malami’s lawyer, Joseph Daudu, stated that the properties in question were declared in Malami’s asset declaration forms and are not linked to any unlawful activity.

The former AGF is asking the court to restrain the EFCC from interfering with his ownership and possession of the properties.
