Two senators from Taraba State, Haruna Manu and Shuaibu Lau, have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Their defection letters were read during a Senate plenary session by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, increasing the APC’s seats in the Senate to 81.
Manu, representing Taraba Central, cited consultations with his constituents and a desire to better serve their interests as reasons for joining the APC.
Lau, representing Taraba North, blamed the PDP’s internal crisis for his decision, stating that the APC aligns more closely with his values and vision.
The defection comes amid growing tensions within the PDP and follows Governor Agbu Kefas’ announcement of his transition from the PDP to the APC in November 2025. The APC now holds 81 seats in the Senate, while the PDP has 21 seats.
