More than 50 survivors of the recent deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State are currently receiving medical treatment for injuries sustained during the assault.

The victims, many of whom suffered gunshot wounds and other serious injuries, were affected by the coordinated attack on Woro and the neighbouring Nuku community, which left scores dead and several properties destroyed.

The Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sadiq Umar, visited some of the injured survivors in hospital, where he expressed sympathy and described the incident as deeply distressing. He offered prayers for their speedy recovery and assured the victims of his continued support throughout their treatment and rehabilitation.

During the visit, Senator Umar commended President Bola Tinubu for deploying security personnel under Operation Savannah Shield to restore peace and pursue those behind the attack. He also praised Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his swift response, particularly the directive to the State Emergency Management Agency to provide relief materials to affected communities.

The lawmaker called for sustained and intensified security operations across Kwara North, noting that the area has continued to face recurring security challenges. He urged residents to remain united, hopeful, and prayerful, while reaffirming his commitment to the welfare of his constituents and lasting peace in the region.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical, operational, and intelligence assets to Kaiama Local Government Area. The Nigeria Police Force described the incident as tragic and confirmed that a manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.

Gunmen attacked Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities on Tuesday, killing at least 75 people, setting shops and a traditional ruler’s residence on fire, and forcing many residents to flee their homes. While initial reports suggested a higher casualty figure, the Kwara State Police Command confirmed on Friday that 75 people were killed.

Governor AbdulRazaq described the attack as a “pure massacre” and confirmed that at least 75 victims had already been buried. President Tinubu has also ordered the deployment of an army battalion to further strengthen security in the state under Operation Savannah Shield.

The killings have drawn widespread condemnation from political and regional groups, including the Northern States Governors’ Forum, which described the attack as barbaric.
