The Court of Appeal in Abuja has ruled that the Senate acted within its powers when it suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, for misconduct.

The three-member panel of Justices unanimously agreed that the suspension didn’t breach Akpoti-Uduaghan’s parliamentary privileges or constitutional rights.

However, the court vacated the ₦5 million fine and contempt proceedings against Akpoti-Uduaghan over a satirical apology she made to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Justice Abba Muhammed emphasized that the Senate President was right to deny Akpoti-Uduaghan speaking rights since she wasn’t in her allocated seat during plenary on February 20, 2025.
