Diezani Alison-Madueke, former Nigerian Minister of Petroleum, is facing a high-profile corruption and bribery trial in London, accused of receiving luxury benefits and cash in exchange for influence over oil and gas contracts.

Prosecutors claim she accepted £100,000 in cash, chauffeur-driven cars, private jet flights, and luxury goods from individuals linked to Atlantic Energy and SPOG Petrochemical groups, which secured contracts with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Alison-Madueke, who served as OPEC president between 2014 and 2015, denies the allegations, with her lawyer arguing she was merely a “rubber stamp” for official recommendations.

The trial, expected to last several weeks, could result in up to 10 years in prison and/or an unlimited fine if convicted.
