Nigeria has reopened its borders with Benin and Niger Republics in Kebbi State, allowing for the movement of legitimate goods and boosting bilateral trade.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Area Command in Kebbi State opened the Kamba and Tsamiya borders in Dandi and Bagudo local government areas, which had been shut due to growing insecurity.

Customs Area Comptroller in Kebbi State, Mahmud Matawalle Ibrahim, stated that the borders were reopened on the approval of President Bola Tinubu to facilitate trade and enhance security.

The move is expected to revive cross-border trade, benefiting economies on both sides. Many trapped trucks from Benin Republic have already been cleared at Tsamiya to enter Niger Republic’s Tunga Jado border through Kamba.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, emphasized the importance of structured inter-agency and cross-border collaboration to address transit trade and security challenges.

The Kebbi State Government has pledged support for the initiative, providing logistics and infrastructure to security agencies.
